Weapons of Brass Destruction | Music on the Patio

Being a river town with an outsized musical scene, you might think Eau Claire is practically a northern version of “N’Awlins”. So where are all the Brass Bands?

In Spring 2014, trombonist Tom Carlson set out to rectify the situation by starting this band with some cream-of-the-crop horn and percussion players.

Our musical roots are definitely from the Crescent City, but don’t look for run-of-the-mill dixieland here; funky R&B, afro, and mambo grooves feature prominently in our repertoire. Think Dirty Dozen, Trombone Shorty, Rebirth, and Youngblood.

Brett Newski - TPTK’S 2ND BIRTHDAY PARTY | Music on the Patio

“A blend of Bob Dylan and 90s alternative.”

Folk-Grunge. Alt-country. Garage Americana. Whatever you call it, BRETT NEWSKI has carved his own lane at the crossroads of scrappy rock n roll, freak folk and comedic storytelling. Out May 1, Newski returns with a new album (and companion pocket book) Have a Thing, Miss Your Moment, Wait for the Revival, arriving via Nomad Union.

“Recording to tape is the only way to keep music purely human,” says Newski. “You can’t fake a tape recording. Currently, AI has no way to get onto analog tape. To limit billionaries skimming off the top, the book/music will NOT be on Amazon. The title track will NOT be on any streaming. Pre-order: https://www.brettnewski.com/merch

Have a Thing blends 60’s era Bob Dylan's freewheeling lyricism with the crunch, grit, and melodic bite of 90s alternative rock, showcasing NEWSKI's production style of a lost Velvet Underground tape. “In Love With Everything Except People” features Lou Reed’s band leader, Kevin Hearn (Barenaked Ladies, Violent Femmes) on piano. Recorded straight to cassette in Milwaukee, WI, the project leans into the imperfections that make analog charm so enduring.

Little Way is a duo composed of husband and wife Braedon and Kayla Hoecherl. We play country music and believe good words and truth matter more than pristine production. We play a mix of well-known songs, new and classics. From artists like Willie Nelson, Alabama, and Garth Brooks to Zach Bryan, Tyler Childers, Riley Green, and Chris Stapleton. We throw in some of our unique preferences as well, including Flatland Cavalry, Muscadine Bloodline, and Charles Wesley Godwin. Music has been a part of our lives for quite a long time. We met at a summer camp where we have played in the band for years. We record music in our small home studio tucked away in the northwoods of Wisconsin, and we released our first album, titled “Simple is the Hardest Thing to Be” in May 2024.
